Top 5 Questions from V-locity and Diskeeper Customers

After having chatted with 50+ customers the last three months, I’ve heard the same five questions enough times to turn it into a blog entry, and a lot of it has to do with flash: 1. Do Condusiv products still “defrag” like in the old days of Diskeeper? No. Although users can use Diskeeper to manually defrag if they so choose, the core engines in Diskeeper and V-locity have nothing to do with defragmentation or physical disk management. The patented IntelliWrite® engine inside Diskeeper and V-locity adds a layer of intelligence into the Windows operating system enabling it improve the...

Is DymaxIO Still Essential as We Transition Our Systems to the Cloud?

...or further information, please reach out to customer support or your account manager. With its ability to optimize performance across environments, DymaxIO remains essential for both on-premise and cloud systems.   Resources: Windows is still Windows Whether in the Cloud, on Hyperconverged or All-flash https://condusiv.com/windows-is-still-windows-whether-in-the-cloud-on-hyperconverged-or-all-flash/ Solving the I/O Blender Effect with Software-Based Caching https://condusiv.com/solving-the-io-blender-effect-with-software-based-caching/ IntelliWrite Makes Writes Happen Far More Intelligently https://condusiv.com/intelliwrite-behind-the-magic-curtain/ Videos: The Impact of the I/O Blender Effect on Windows Performance https://condusiv.com/videos/videos-the-impact-of-the-i-o-blender-effect-on-windows-performance/ The I/O Request Path: Why Unnecessary I/Os are Created https://condusiv.com/videos/videos-the-io-request-path-why-unnecessary-ios-are-created/ Two I/O Taxes in Virtualized Environments https://condusiv.com/videos/two-io-taxes-in-virtual-environments/ Published on Apr 11, 2024 Updated Oct 22, 2024...

Increasing VDI Density with V-locity or new DymaxIO

...when you read, or update, that data again, the file system has to send sixteen I/Os to the storage system, not one. You get the idea. V-locity has a technology called IntelliWrite® that helps the Windows file system make sure that 64KB gets allocated as a single 64KB chunk instead of sixteen 4KB chunks. It does this by providing extra intelligence to the file system which makes the overhead of IntelliWrite virtually zero. V-locity also has a technology we refer to as Just In Time. What it does is collect real-time data about how files are accessed and when it...

What Condusiv’s Diskeeper Does for Me

...either Diskeeper or SSDkeeper, but not both? You lose nothing because Diskeeper and SSDkeeper share most of the same features. Diskeeper like SSDkeeper can optimize solid-state disks using IntelliMemory Caching and IntelliWrite, and SSDkeeper like Diskeeper can optimize magnetic disks using Instant Defrag. Both products can automatically determine the storage type and apply the optimal technology. Thus, your decision of whether to purchase Diskeeper or SSDkeeper is based on which technology the majority of your disks use, either HDD or SSD. (New DymaxIO automatically detects your operating environment and applies the correct performance optimization technologies.) Allow me to explain what...

Industry-first FAL Remediation and Improved Performance for MEDITECH

...helps stem the FAL growth. An industry first! It will also automatically determine how often to process these files according to their FAL size severity. Enhanced Free space consolidation engine: One indirect cause of FAL size growth is the extreme free space fragmentation found in these cases. A new Free Space method has been developed to handle these extreme cases. Unique FAL growth prevention: Along with MediWrite, V-locity, DymaxIO, and Diskeeper contain another very important technology called IntelliWrite® which automatically prevents new fragmentation from occurring. By preventing fragmentation from occurring, IntelliWrite minimizes any further FAL size growth issues. Unique Offline...

Condusiv Launches SSDkeeper Software that Guarantees “Faster than New” Performance for PCs and Physical Servers and Extends Longevity of SSDs

...hot reads within idle, available DRAM. Solid-state drives can only handle a number of finite writes before failing. Every write kicks off P/E cycles that shorten SSD lifespan otherwise known as write amplification. By reducing the number of writes required for any given file or workload, SSDkeeper significantly boosts write performance speed while also reducing the number of P/E cycles that would have otherwise been executed. This enables individuals and organizations to reclaim the write speed of their SSD drives while ensuring the longest life possible. Patented Write Optimization SSDkeeper’s patented write optimization engine (IntelliWrite®) prevents excessively small, fragmented writes...

Unveiling the Culprits: Understanding I/O Bottlenecks, Their Impact, and the DymaxIO Solution

...designed to elevate I/O performance. Consider IntelliMemory®, a patented read I/O optimization engine that leverages available DRAM to efficiently cache frequently accessed data. This server-side DRAM read caching engine specifically targets the most demanding I/O operations, substantially diminishing reliance on storage devices. The result is expedited data retrieval and heightened system-wide responsiveness. Revolutionizing write operations, IntelliWrite®, a patented write optimization technology, effectively addresses issues related to excessively small, fragmented, and random writes and reads. By providing Windows with file size intelligence, IntelliWrite optimizes allocation at the logical disk layer, facilitating large, contiguous writes and reads. This intelligent approach minimizes I/O...

Diskeeper 2011 (build 956) Update

Here is a list of the fixes and new features of the latest Diskeeper 2011 build. Fixes: Fixed an incorrect warning in the Performance Report. If a volume is smaller than 2GB (e.g. a recovery partition), on which IntelliWrite may not be enabled, this is not flagged in the Performance Report as a non-optimal configuration. New Features: Added date, time, and product version to the saved and printed Job Reports. IntelliWrite, if you have licensed HyperFast, can now be enabled on SSD-backed volumes (note the default setting is “off”)....

eWeek tests Diskeeper 2010

“Not only does Diskeeper’s software attempt to prevent fragmentation from ever occurring, but it cuts power consumption and unnecessary I/O operations.” “IT administrators who turn frequently to disk defragmentation tools should have a look at Diskeeper 2010.” – Jason Brooks, eWeek eWeek ran some tests to see if IntelliWrite really lived up to the promise and, no surprise to us, it clearly did. Their tests, done with Windows XP guests running on VMware vShpere 4, found IntelliWrite prevented 87% of fragmentation. Invisitasking quickly cleaned up the few pieces that slipped through. 3 Min Video on SAN Misconceptions Regarding Fragmentation

...piece of the file. In George’s example, it could take 25 I/O operations to process a file that could have otherwise been processed with a single I/O. We see customer examples of severe fragmentation where a single file has been fractured into thousands of pieces at the logical layer. It’s akin to pouring molasses on a SAN system. Since a defragmentation process only deals with the problem after-the-fact and is not an option on a modern, production SAN without taking it offline, Condusiv developed its patented IntelliWrite® technology within both Diskeeper® and V-locity® that prevents I/Os from fracturing in the...
